Conservation of the Bottom Left-Hand Corner 

Gesso and Sanding

The exposed wood was lightly brushed in rabbit skin glue to help the gesso stick to the wooden surfaces. The gesso once dry was sanded. This ensures it is level and consistent with the original shape of the decoration. 

Moulding

Compo was used to create the new pieces of missing decoration. 

Painting

Oil paints were used to paint the surfaces of the new composition and gesso to blend in with the original colour of the frame.
