The head pediment had sustained damage in several areas.

This left wires which originally held the composition decoration in place exposed.

The composition decoration had also cracked in places, which meant that they also could become loose and fall from the frame.

Bottom Right-Hand Corner

Most of the compo decoration was missing and due to this the exposed wood being painted over to hide the missing decoration. The plaster that sits next to the wood had also fallen away causing the wooden corner to become loose and was at a risk of falling off.

Other Damage

DSC_0204.JPG

Around the frame, especially on the bottom and right-hand side of the frame most of this floral compo decoration was gone and had exposed the white gesso underneath.

Also, the frame was missing the compo decoration of gilt beads which runs along the side of the glass mirror.

The bottom right-hand corner had also lost all of its plaster, decoration and gilding. This had left iron nails exposed and the original wood of the frame.
